Svengoolie meets the dc universe for sale full#
We got in line at about 10:15, and the stanchions (which were only set up to fill about a third of the massive room, and then followed a route along the outskirts of it) were only half full at the time (though the room got very packed later) I'd say it took us about half an hour, once he arrived, to see him, so we had plenty of time to see the rest of the museum afterwards. The signing was scheduled from noon to 2, but he was still signing at 2:30. Plus, the backdrop - a diorama involving stuff from Alien - was much more interesting than those awful school-picture-type backdrops at convention photo-ops! So Kel and I (and my plush wolf, Nightstalker) got our pic together with Svengoolie (I as Death of the Endless, Nightstalker as Delirium, and Kel as an accidental, casual, genderbent Dean Winchester), and it's now one of my favourite photos ever ! And Svengoolie was very sweet!

Getting back to the signing, you couldn't take selfies with Svengoolie, but the museum took free professional pictures, and posted them on their Facebook page! Much better than having a wrangler do it with one's own camera, I feel, and more practical than having the photo-taking done separately, like at most cons. The art is very well-rendered, too! And, of course, it's great fun to see Svengoolie interacting win the DC universe! The issue also features a two-page biography of Svengoolie.

The comedy fits well with the corny, punny jokes of the TV show, and fans will appreciate nods to long-running gags from the series. In it, Svengoolie finds himself being chased by giant, evil rubber chickens -ones who were sicced on him by the Joker, who is angry that people associate Svengoolie with the classic comedy prop rather than him. It was written by Dan DiDio, penciled by Christopher Jones, and coloured by Hi-Fi. Now, a quick review of this 8-page comic (which could also be found in two-page installments in DC comics published this October). But best of all, they gave everyone free copies of the DC Comics ashcan featuring him interacting with several of their characters, in honour of his 40th anniversary as the character! I was verklempt - I'd really wanted it, and had hoped he'd have copies available, fully prepared to pay as much as $20 for it!

(I brought a painting I'd done, to give to him Kel and I had him sign copies of it.) Also, there was a table just before his that was selling glow-in-the-dark t-shirts for $20 (I bought one), and posters for $15. The website said one signature per person, on an item you brought, but I think I saw a stack of photos on his table. Tickets were $15 there was no extra fee for the signing. I'm so glad we made the effort - we had a blast! Knowing I would be coming back to Chicago for a visit, we kept our eye on his website, to see if we could meet him at an event we determined that the signing at Volo would be our best bet, and made plans accordingly. Eventually, that show had gone off the air, but a few years ago, Koz came back as just Svengoolie, and last year, we discovered that I could watch MeTV on my satellite provider! So that's something Kel and I have been bonding over lately. Now, having been born and raised in the Chicagoland area, Kel (my oldest friend) and I had grown up watching Koz on Son of Svengoolie (Koz had taken over from the senior Svengoolie, Jerry G. It looked like a really cool place! (He also had aired a very cool segment from an annual outdoor Halloween event in Elgin, Illinois, but I was not able to attend that this year.) (And Mark Hamill himself is a big fan!) Last year, Svengoolie aired a segment from the Volo Auto Museum and accompanying antique mall, in Volo, Illinois. He also occasionally has an "On the Road" segment, where he shows moments and interviews from various events he goes to. With his castmates (talking rubber chicken-monster Kerwin, talking and floating skull Tombstone, and musician "Doug Graves", among others) he does little comedy skits sings filk (parody) songs gives fascinating trivia about the making of the movies, as well as about the cast and crew and features art by and photos of his viewers.
